This place rocks. Clear cut opening statement huh? Seriously though. My husband told me about the Petrol Station one day several months ago, as we are always looking for cool new places to try. Okay sure let's go! We have been regular patrons ever since. The first couple times it was just him and I hanging out on their patio enjoying some brews after work or on the weekend. Definitely a relaxing atmosphere.
This place is nestled in a primarily residential neighborhood- Oak Forest/Garden Oaks area of Houston. This area of town is up-and-coming and nothing can stop it. The homes are a wide variety of older and new construction but all well maintained nevertheless. I like it because it is definitely the "Neighborhood Spot".
As you can see from the photo above its small, and they even rolled out the red carpet for you. :) The inside is full of high tops, picnic bench style tables, and of course the bar. DUH! Get there early or no seat for you! The seating is definitely competitive, but they do offer a really nice front, and back patio which are set with tables, umbrellas to help shade you, and most important.... FANS! So you sweat your ass completely off. Or maybe you will. Pit stains are acceptable here so no worries.
The beer is their number one offering. They have a wide variety that is ever changing with the wind. They like to keep it interesting and I can't blame them one bit. Good luck finding any of these in a store. Specialty and special they are! Anything and everything from wheat brews, lagers and IPAs- they have something for everyone. If your tummy starts grumbling you are in luck- they have a pretty nice menu of pub food favorites too.
My favorite? Hands down the LAMBBURGER. Now people I am a lady. (Stop laughing). I am usually the grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo kind of girl. But this burger is the best I have ever had. Big, thick and juicy- grilled to perfection. Piled on a bun with lettuce, tomato, feta and tzatziki sauce! Combining my love for Mediterranean cuisine in a burger? Sold. They also have other tasty treats like a Reuben, turkey sandwich and pita and humus plate. We met some friends here last night and 3 of the 4 of us ordered this very burger. I ate mine so fast I was ashamed.
We love the Petrol Station. We feel lucky we discovered this hidden treasure, and will continue to drink the delicious beer and gorge ourselves on lamby burgers for as long as we can! Cheers!
